Strategies that create competitive advantages

The Boston Consulting Group defines strategy as "the ongoing creation of real competitive advantages". In communications, however, all too often an assembly of tactical/operative measures is dubbed "a strategy".

Yet buiding a reputation is like a long distance run: Without a clear direction and an understanding of the route, the athlete may well get lost.

That's why, at Gartner Communications, we believe in strategy processes and tools: from research and analysis to scenario planning, and from strategy description to clear, measurable objectives.

A first step: Strategy Sparring

An inspiring first step can be a "Strategy Sparring Session", in which we cheerfully challenge some of the client's perceived certainties. Do you know how you're currently scoring against those objectives?...

This usually leads to engaging discussions and, as a take-away, a number of concrete opportunities for improvement.
