Social media pose new challenges

Social media such as Twitter and Facebook have dramatically increased the speed of crisis evoluton, putting up new challenges in terms of monitoring, response processes, and decision-making.

A global study by Gartner Communcations in the summer of 2010 showed that 35% of senior corporate communicators feel their organization is "hardly prepared" or "completely unprepared" to handle social media in crisis situations.
